Three years ago I became involved in photographing the Indian River St. Baldrick’s Brave the Shave. It is an amazing event to raise money for Children’s Cancer Research. One hundred percent of the donations go directly to childhood cancer research. It is shocking to discover that less than 4% of the National Cancer Institute’s budget is dedicated to childhood cancer research. Children who are cured of their cancer often times have “late effects” health issues from the treatment they have received. There is so much that needs to be done for research and cure for Childhood Cancer. If you are brave enough to “Brave the Shave” or you want to donate, contact your local St. Baldrick’s chapter to get involved.
At last years shave, Payton, made a commitment to raise money and “Brave the Shave”! This year Team Maya was formed. Maya’s sisters, Nina and Nadia joined Payton to raise money and “Brave the Shave” to honor Maya and all kids with cancer. In April, they ran a 5k for a Maya Matters Super Hero fundraiser.
Maya, Nina and Nadia’s Mom Cara and Payton’s Mom Missy are the driving forces behind these very important fund raising events. They are determined to support causes that will some day find a cure for Childhood Cancers.
